Hello
My name is Elaine Teale and I live in Bedford which is close to London in the UK. I have over 30 years experience of teaching Biology including GCSE, iGCSE, A level and International Baccalaureate. I have also taught Science to younger students. I have been an IB Examiner and have always taught examination classes so I am thoroughly acquainted with the IB Diploma programme as well as a range of GCSE and A level specifications.

I have taught in some notable schools in the UK and overseas such as Dulwich College, London; Latymer Upper School, London; Trinity School, Croydon; The United World College of South East Asia in Singapore, and Bedford Girls' School.

My roles have evolved throughout my career from Science and Biology Teacher to Head of Department, Head of Faculty, Deputy Head and Head of Senior School but at the very heart of my work has been the consistent desire to help young people grow and achieve.

I have extensive experience of online teaching having spent 2 years at an online school; Kings InterHigh. This has not only given me the tools needed to make online teaching engaging but it's also enabled me to interact with young people who do not attend bricks and mortar schools for a wide range of reasons.

My varied career has allowed me to teach a diverse group of students with differing learning needs and goals, helping them experience the highest quality learning. It has also exposed me to a variety of cultures and perspectives which has deepened my understanding of the students in front of me. The combination of pastoral and academic leadership means that I am a compassionate teacher with a clear understanding of the difference good teaching can make.
A bit more about me
I studied for an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter, this was followed by a PGCE at Exeter and later, an MSc in Learning and Teaching at Oxford University. I have spent most of my teaching career at various schools in London but I have also worked internationally in Mexico and Singapore. This allowed me to travel extensively throughout Central and South America, and Asia; I even managed to visit the Galapagos Islands - a biologist's dream trip. I have two children and in my spare time I enjoy playing tennis, squash, swimming and trying to grow flowers and vegetables.
